Channel 4 has a new spin on reality television with its show Four Rooms. In it, hopeful sellers bring unusual artifacts that they hope will be worth a pretty penny. They then get an opportunity to meet with four top dealers in private rooms, who will examine the objects and make a bid. The seller can accept and take the money, or reject and move on to the next dealer; they cannot go back to a dealer that they have left.
One dealer on the show in particular is worth mentioning: Mr. Alex Proud. Aside from being a popular adjective, the name might seem familiar. His company, the Proud Group, has a significant amount of experience in the entertainment industry, particularly in dealing with goods of the rock’n’roll variety. The galleries feature skilled photography of popular culture icons, including history-making musicians like Buddy Holly, Barb Marley, John Lennon, and more. Alex Proud’s tastes on Four Rooms demonstrate his propensity for the genre, as one of his purchases included a guitar signed by Damian Hirst.
Aside from the Proud Galleries and popular television shows, Proud has its hands in a variety of other ventures as well. Adding to Alex Proud’s credibility as a rock industry expert, his group runs Proud Camden Bar, a popular live music venue featuring the likes of artists such as The Enemy, I Blame Coco, and even the Manchester Orchestra.
There is more under the roof of this horse-hospital-turned-entertainment-spot, though, like the Proud Camden gallery. A 10,000 square foot space, it has two large exhibition areas with rustic décor and an outdoor terrace, the perfect place for a large event. This gallery is one of three operated by Proud.
While at Camden, also look at the cabaret close by. Decked out in the finest garb of the 1920’s, the cabaret features fine dining, cocktails, and entertainment from the risqué to the unique. Additional cabaret locations under the Proud name are in Brighton and London.
With this expertise in the entertainment industry, it is little wonder that Alex Proud was invited to bring his knowledge to the table on the Four Rooms.
